A stunning transformation of this apartment building into a contemporary heaven.
San Diego is a great area to invest in property. This client bought a four-unit apartment building in very rough shape. His goal: develop into modern, rentable apartments. Together, we designed and permitted a complete remodel.
The property is in a historic neighborhood and every detail came under review by the city's historic department. As an added challenge, we were very short on time and needed the project finished ASAP. Luckily, the client was VERY clear about what he wanted and even chose finish materials before we had our initial floor plan!

Work Done
Gutted the interior and rebuilt with a completely new floor plan. Exterior walls stayed while we added a deck to each unit, large walls of sliding doors, and new stairways.
The client chose interior finishes and came to the table with a preliminary floor plan. Meldrum Design created the exterior design, completed the floor plans, and produced permit documents. That being said, each decision was a collaboration. Two brains are better than one!
Priorities
We wanted the apartments to feel roomy and to flow easily from one space to the next. Since they're so small, we used many European design concepts and products. The floor plan and decor had to work for tenants of all types. These apartments are perfect for a weekend getaway or as a place to settle for many years.
